Being in Columbia for my four years of Columbia and having the opportunity to shoot for the Columbia Missourian and now the Columbia Tribune has really given me the chance to get to know the families and people who live here, and I’ve come to really love this town. Columbia puts together a lot of really awesome events that can really bring the community together and The Harvest Hootenanny Fundraiser was a wonderful example of that.
A full evening of live music, a meal made from only Missouri grown food, games for children and a live auction were just a few of the awesome events the fundraiser had.
The evening raised over $11,000 and the coolest part in all of that is that most of that money goes straight back to the community. The Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture has community outreach programs, like The Opportunity Gardens Program, which gives underprivileged families and individuals the resources and support to start their own garden and learn about the advantages of eating fresh and homegrown food. Rock on Columbia!
